Frequently asked questions
How does image compression work here?
The tool re-encodes each image at the quality you choose, discarding data your eyes are least likely to notice. You can also cap the largest dimension to shrink the file even further.
Which formats can I compress?
You can compress JPG, PNG and WebP images. Each file is saved back in its original format, so a JPG stays a JPG and a PNG stays a PNG.
Why did my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so the quality slider has no effect on it. The best way to shrink a PNG is to resize it, or convert it to JPG or WebP with the related tools.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. Add a batch of images, compress them together, and see the size saved for each one. Download them individually or all together as a ZIP archive.
Do my images stay private?
Yes. All compression happens locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded, so your images never leave your device.
